The rise and rise of mobile phones ensured the demise of these once ubiquitous red boxes. A design icon, Giles Gilbert Scott's cast iron structure arrived on our streets in 1924. This one is the more common K6 version from 1935. Rather like the red post box and the London Bus it came to symbolise an aspect of English life in the 20th century.
