Muddy gateway between hilltop fields. No stock about at the time of the photo, but evidence of sheep and cattle having been grazed here. The old maps show most of this square as wooded, but it is nearly all open now. The fog is caused by the movement south of a large anticyclone, Scotland is to the north of the high pressure allowing westerly winds to bring in mild moist air which condenses on contact with the cold air over the land. It was +2°C at the time and windy - most unpleasant.
