The pub is not the original, but there can be no doubt that this is the location from which the first public passenger train in the world departed https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/8317589 . The pathway follows the alignment of the original Stockton and Darlington Railway before the extensive Shildon Railway Works developed. The information board was installed in connection with the 200th anniversary of the event in 2025. Nearest the camera is the World Origin Site plaque.
