The South Staffordshire Water Company was granted permission in 1897 to build an enclosed storage reservoir on the hilltop; another has since been built alongside. They divide the public park into two, with a connecting path running up one side. See the site of the Aldridge Local History Society http://aldridgelhs.co.uk/barr-beacon .
