Bird of Paradise Flower (Strelitzia reginae)

A native of South Africa, and one member of a genus of five species of perennial plants the plant is also known as bird of paradise flower. The name is derived from the duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the birthplace of the wife of King George III, Queen Charlotte, of the United Kingdom. In South Africa the plant is commonly known as a crane flower.
