Castle Stairs, Sandhill, Newcastle upon Tyne

These are an historic set of steps that connect Sandhill and the Quayside area with Castle Garth and the upper part the medieval town. The stairs were first documented in the early 16th century and have been modified over the years. More recently, what has been described as the "coolest coffee shop in Newcastle opened its doors to the caffeine drinking public. The small coffee shop is located on the first landing of the stairs, the white door of which is just visible in this photograph.
