The once familiar sound of waste being dumped down the sides of the tips - now alas absent from most of the Arfon Slate Belt - can be heard in this part of the Ogwen Valley, even on a Saturday morning. The Penrhyn Quarry owned for two centuries by the Penrhyn family of Penrhyn Castle, was purchased by Alfred McAlpine in 1964. Recently, it was sold to an Irish company - Ringcycle owned by the Lisburn-based construction chief Peter Lagan. http://www.lisburntoday.co.uk/news?articleid=3957818
