Ram Hill Colliery, Coalpit Heath

This former colliery site is a scheduled ancient monument and the remains date from the 1830s. The pit was abandoned by around 1860. In the foreground is the base of the square chimney with the beam winding engine house beyond. The two long rods helped hold down the cylinder. In the background are the low keyhole shaped walls that enclosed the horse gin. To the left of this is the oval shaft said to be 558' deep. This site is a scheduled ancient monument.
