This old milestone is under the hedge outside some houses just south of the junction where the Knaresborough road leaves the old Great North Road at the northern end of Wetherby. At the junction is a house built on the site of a tollhouse. The stone is 37cms wide, 24cms deep and 85cms high. The new Wetherby to Knaresborough tollroad was first enacted in 1783 so this milestone may date from the start of the 19th century. Milestones were usually erected a few years after a tollroad was set up and enough funds had accumulated from the tolls. Milestone Society ID - YN_KBWE06
