Military Road, Ramsgate Harbour

Military Road was named for its role when Ramsgate served as an important troop embarkation point during the Napoleonic Wars. It provided access to the western arm of the harbour which was previously only assessible from Jacob's Ladder. On the left are the red-brick arches which support the Royal Parade, built in 1893 to provide a route between West Cliff and Ramsgate Harbour. Under the arches are businesses and workshops principally supporting the marine industry.
