Former Smack Boys' Home, Ramsgate Harbour

An inscription above the ground floor reads "The Ramsgate Home for Smack Boys Founded 1881". Smack boys were apprentices on the fishing smacks that operated from Ramsgate Harbour in the 19th and 20th centuries. Ramsgate Harbour was the only port which had such a facility. The building is now used as the Harbourmaster's office.
