Jacob's Ladder, Ramsgate Harbour

The architect was John Shaw (1776–1832) who also designed the clock house and an obelisk on Ramsgate Harbour. Jacob's ladder was built in 1826 replacing an earlier wooden structure. It runs from the Military Road at harbour level to the Royal Parade at clifftop level. It was possibly named after John ("Jacob") Stead, a local carpenter who constructed the original wooden structure. It is grade II listed.
