Built around 1790 as house, this was converted to "The Bird in Hand" pub by 1878, replacing an earlier nearby pub of same name. Apart from short spells as "Churchill's Hotel" and Dyson's Commercial & Family Hotel" it was still popularly known as The Exhibition, and officially returned to this name in due course.
