Berridge Primary School is behind the tree. There were no trees when I was a pupil in the 1950s. The picture gives an idea of what an orange city Nottingham is on sunny days. In the days of coal fires, factory chimneys and steam trains the local brick, from the brickworks in Mapperley or Edwalton, was smoke-darkened and nothing like so bright, even on cloudless days.
