The late 18th century textile mill was founded by Alexander Brodie, a native of Traquair. Originally powered by water from the 'dam', it was converted to steam power. The mill closed in 2013 and houses were built on the surrounding site. Plans to use it as the basis of a mountain biking centre have had to be dropped in the face of the cost of restoring the fabric, so a new building will be constructed.
