The sculpture was the first piece of public art in Calne. Commissioned by Calne Civic Society, it was made by Richard Cowdy to illustrate the link between the town and the Harris Bacon company whose factories dominated the centre of Calne until their demise and demolition in the mid 1980s. The sculpture is dated 1979.
