Although the road is marked on maps as New Lane, the official name of the level crossing is Scarrigton Lane. The Nottingham to Grantham railway has many crossings in this area and Scarrington Lane has automatic half barriers. The road signs tell us that the crossing surface is not very even. The building just before the crossing is Crossing House and would no doubt have been the home of the crossing keeper in the days before the crossing was automated.
