Chesham Station

The station was opened on 8 July 1889 by the Metropolitan Railway as a temporary northern terminus. The original intention was to extend the line to Tring to provide a connection to the West Coast Main Line. However, before work was begun, an alternative route was chosen across the Chilterns via Aylesbury. The Met continued to buy land between Chesham and Tring for some years after the station's opening, but the route was never extended further, leaving Chesham on its own branch line. Today, with the Metropolitan line subsumed into the London Underground, Chesham is served by half-hourly trains to Aldgate running from a single platform.
