The market hall was built at the behest of Lord Cawdor (Viscount Emlyn) in 1892, with an assembly room above, now the home of an amateur theatre group. It occupies a triangular site at the juncture of Sycamore, Bridge and castle Street and incorporates an unusual clocktower which dominates this end of the town.
