This empty patch was once the village railway station. It was on the Langport and Castle Cary Railway of the Great Western Railway, and was a temporary terminus station for the railway (serving trains from Castle Cary) before it was finished in 1906. Charlton's station operated from 1905 to 1962; since then the buildings have been demolished and the area closed to the public as the line is still active.
