This handsome terrace dates from late Victorian times and was one of the earliest examples of council housing in Manchester. The attic bedrooms allowed boys and girls to sleep separately - something that was not possible in the traditional two bedroom working class houses. The street is named after George Leigh who was at one time a major landowner in the Ancoats area.
