Once a cricket field

This part of Thackeray's Lane Recreation Ground was once a rather small cricket ground, where Woodthorpe CC played home games. The straight boundaries were short, and it was here, as a teenager in the 1960s, that I hit my first ever straight six, into one of the gardens opposite. Those houses are on Park Road.
