This view along the southern edge of Cricklade is an open space, bounded to the north by modern housing. Varying land levels, picked out by striped mowing, show the remnants of the old Saxon town walls. Built around 1,000 years ago the town was protected by three ditches, with a stone wall on an embankment to the left. The houses are inside what was the old town.
