A queue of University of Oxford students on Merton Street, outside the Examinations School, waiting to enter to sit their exams. Adhering to tradition to sit their exams they are wearing Sud-fusc (from the Latin meaning 'Dark/Dusky Colour) clothes. Another tradition is the wearing of a carnation in their button hole; the colour of the carnation depicting which exam they are taking. For a first exam, a white carnation is worn, pink are worn for intermediate exams, and red carnations for the final exam.
