From a position west of the mouth of the Baldovie Burn, the view in the photo shows the grassy bank and wild flowers growing on the southern edge of Montrose Basin. Pieces of wood can be seen lying on the grassy bank, and these indicate that a high tide can reach that level at the present time, but it is thought that the Basin is only the remnant of a much larger body of water that existed after the last Ice Age, and at that time the waters of Montrose Basin would not have been contained by the bank in the photo, and the coastal slopes of Craig Braes and Rossie Braes would have been underwater.
