This was the site of a cotton spinning mill that was later acquired by Alexander Pirie and Sons and used to prepare rags for use in paper-making. All that is left is this set of rope drive pulleys and gear wheels. There is a nearby interpretation board describing the history of the site but shedding little light on this power transmission machinery.
