The Basingstoke Canal is quite isolated in the middle of dense woodland along this stretch, but there was a crossing here years ago. The map still shows a track coming through the wood just here, but as you see, there hasn't been anything for years. The canal maintenance teams still keep the site clear as a place of interest.
