Looking north along Hill Top in Cawthorne, this shows the backing stone of the West Riding CC milestone set up in 1893/94. Originally the stones were left bare but over time many have been painted white, black or grey. This one has remnants of white paint. There is also a hole in the top which indicates it may have been used by the Ordnance Survey. This stone was buried in 1940 and reset when it was found some years later.
