New Marnoch Parish Kirk

Originally a Free kirk, built in 1841 to a design by James Henderson. The parishioners of Image] objected to the appointment by the heritors of the Reverend John Edwards to the charge when they preferred the Reverend David Henry, and they left and built a free church in the new town of Aberchirder or Foggieloan nearby (which must have been much more convenient for more of the parish than the rather isolated Old Kirk). It is now the Church of Scotland Parish Kirk, following various reunifications of the Free Church denominations. The kirk is Category B Listed. (The issue of who has the right to appoint a minister was a key issue that precipitated the Great Disruption of the Church of Scotland two years later, in May 1843.)
