Originally built in about 1820 as a coaching inn to serve travellers to Alnwick Castle by the 3rd Duke of Northumberland. Mentioned briefly in the 1992 edition of Pevsner's 'Buildings of England Northumberland' as part of, "a long row of 18th and early 19th century houses" and which has, "two full-height segmental bows" (one of which can be seen here). It currently operates as a pub and hotel with a focus on food and drinks, whilst also offering accommodation.
