Memory lane (so to speak)

Whilst most people travelling along this stretch of the canal would be interested in the viaduct a few hundred yards round the bend in the canal I'm more interested in this bit. When not playing football at the local park this is where I spent most of my school summer holidays. The brick building to the right of centre used to be the local glaziers (Merrick & Heath), next to it (hidden by the trees, which were not there in the 50's & 60's) was the rear yard of the local Post Office where my father worked, next along was Smethwicks refuse incinerator where my next door neighbour worked. Just off picture to the right is the site of the Smethwick Empire Theatre which burned down in the 1930's and was still a derelict piece of ground in the 1950's & early 1960's. On the left is where most of the kids in the area picked Blackberries. Yeh, this is definitely a Memory Lane.
