Borough Road Footbridge, Borough Road, North Shields

This steel lattice footbridge was built in 1936 replacing an older iron bridge from the 1850s and connects Waldo Street and Tennyson Terrace. It provides a public right of way and is considered to be an important contributor to the character of the New Quay Conservation Area. In 2023 the bridge was saved from demolition following a Public Inquiry after residents/campaigners argued that it was essential for pedestrians, especially older and disabled individuals.
