The war memorial in the churchyard wall at St Peter's church is accompanied on the left by a stone commemorating Sgt Pilot Bruce Hancock RAFVR. He died on 18th August 1940 when he deliberately rammed a German bomber when on a training flight from nearby RAF Windrush.
