Off Station Road, which the railway crosses on a bridge (right) at the west end of the station. The small grey building on the left is the ticket office (closed on this occasion), with ticket machines provided just beyond. The platforms are reached by stairs from the path past the ticket machines: the staircase to the Up (London bound) platform is visible ahead, while that to the Down (Birmingham) platform is accessed by a pedestrian tunnel through the embankment. Facilities on the platforms are similarly basic: the provision of no more than a single small waiting shelter on either platform was keenly felt by the photographer on this wet day.
