Beyond the crossroads, where Faraday Road (left) and St Peter's Street join, the A609 becomes Wollaton Road and rises to cross the railway. The industries of my post-War childhood in these parts (Raleigh Cycles, Player's cigarettes and hosiery firms) have gone, replaced by student housing and Nottingham University's Jubilee Campus. The White Horse pub on the corner of Faraday Road featured in the film of Radford-born novelist Alan Sillitoe's "Saturday Night and Sunday Morning".
