Bench Mark near Mallusk

Cut bench mark on the northern parapet of Ritchie's Bridge over Ballymartin Water on the A6 near Mallusk. The mark possibly dates from the First Geodetic Levelling of Ireland, 1839-43. At this location a mark was recorded in a line from Belfast to Portrush, the 20th mark in a line of 183. The original remarks describe it as: "Mark on North battlement of bridge over Ballymartin Water; 5.7 ft. above keystone." The mark was originally levelled to 305.904 feet above MSL Dublin, later revised to 90.33m above MSL Belfast.
