The Rock is the name of the (old) lane that passes through this area, once a mish-mash of old tracks and cottages in a landscape heavily mined for coal and ironstone in the 18th & 18th centuries. The white houses on the left date from that period, whilst the bungalow on the right is clearly a modern addition.
