The Foundation Stone was laid in 1860 and the church, which was designed by Architect: William Burges, was consecrated 15th April 1862. Further works were carried out in the inter-war years but in 2015 an arson attack took place. The fire destroyed the roof and much of its interior, leaving only the main brick structure intact. In 2021 work started on the restoration of the church. (Architects: Acanthus Clews, Building Contractor: Buxton Building Contractors, Conservation: Cliveden Conservation) and the church was reconsecrated 30th April 2023.
