Amongst this densely built-up area there are still large open spaces such as this recreation ground between Green Lane and Healds Road. Sometimes they have been preserved by being given to the Council with a covenant preventing development, but I don't know if this was the case here. In the background are some of the older buildings of Dewsbury Hospital, which like many old hospitals was first built as a Workhouse.
