This former toll house was built c.1840 by the Heckmondwike and Tong Turnpike Trust. It was derelict for many years, then was extended at the rear and converted to a house. The canted bay front with its central doorway was designed to give a good view of the road in each direction. Beyond is 20C ribbon development.
