Birmingham Airport opened in Elmdon in 1939, a venture of the city of Birmingham. Almost immediately, war broke out and the Royal Air Force took it over. The hotel has been overshadowed by the art deco air terminal, and there is little information about it online, but presumably it also dates from the late 1930s.
