Emborough Pond

Emborough Pond, otherwise known (at least on OS maps) as Lechmere Water is 10 acres in size. It was originally a much smaller mill pond. From 1525 it was held by monks on a 51 year lease and they stocked it with bream, tench, perch and roach, as they were not allowed to eat meat but were allowed to eat fish. It is now used for carp fishing. The little platform areas visible in the photograph are the fishing 'bays'.
