Affixed to the facade of No. 298 Holderness Road, one of a terrace of five shops built between 1891 and 1899, is an iron plate bearing the inscription 'M P. 26 FT'. I have been unable to source any information regarding its purpose. This is the sole example I have noted in the city. Ordnance Survey map abbreviations list MP as mile post, mooring post. Incidentally, No. 294 Holderness Road bears a similarly-designed plate but inscribed: 'S P. 15 FT.' https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7911434
