When the new A46 junction was built, this path was created to allow pedestrians and cyclists / horse riders etc. to pass underneath as a continuation of the old Watery Lane. Hence, it's not marked on OS maps as a 'footpath' or 'bridleway' as it was previously a highway. It is signed on the ground as a bridleway, however.
