The Daneway Inn was formerly called the Bricklayers Arms. The building was built in 1784 to accommodate the 'navigators' building the nearby Sapperton Tunnel on the Severn and Thames Canal, it was later used by boatman and leggers using the tunnel. The inn overlooks the former canal, however, the canal immediately in front has been filled in and is part of the inn's carpark.
