The opening stage of the Lloyds Tour of Britain was held here in Kelso today in the Scottish Borders. The stage started and finished here in the cobbled square. The route passed through Coldstream, Gordon, Melrose, Denholm , Jedburgh and St Boswells, a distance of 181km (113 miles). The winner of Stage 1 was young French lad Paul Magnier of team Soudal Quick-Step. He continued this week to win 3 of the 5 stages but unfortunately crashed out in Stage 6. His team mates were Remco Evenepoel of Belgium (the double Olympic Champion in Paris) and Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe.
