Just south of the Eastgate the city walls are closed for the foreseeable future following a partial collapse. Unfortunately the walls have become a political football in recent times with the previous administration stating categorically that the walls were not in danger of falling down. Recent events suggest that they were mistaken. Experts are currently assessing the situation and detours of 200 or 300 metres are available around the collapsed section. See also Image
