The bench, in the grounds of Walmsley Parish Church in Egerton, Bolton, is a memorial to John David Stroud who was killed in action in the Falklands War while serving on H.M.S. Glamorgan and was buried at sea. The motto of H.M.S. Glamorgan translates from the Welsh as "I give way to none".
