Burnished stainless steel feathers curling around stainless steel bar, lit from base. The theme reflects the rural history of the area, the feather representing the sense of freedom expressed by the generations who had moved here from inner city locations. In mythology, it is a symbol of hope and the spiralling motion of the feathers path is the link between heaven and earth. The sculpture tops the CENTRO Interchange Totem at Kings Norton. CENTRO - the executive body for integrated transport in the West Midlands - has been one of the leading champions of providing public art on the public transport network Many stations serving bus, train and Metro light rail services have benefitted from public art incorporated into their design.
