The photo shows Dalton Road as seen in a WSW direction from a point on the road opposite "Broomhill,” 1 Milnthorpe Road, Eastbourne, which is where the famous mountaineer George Mallory attended preparatory school between 1896 and 1900. With Dalton Road being directly opposite Mallory’s school, it is likely that he walked along this road from the school gates for about 150 metres in order to reach the nearest parade of shops on Meads Street.
